Annual Conventions
Conventions are held every year and are held together with the competition on a biennial basis. Since 1974, annual conventions have been held. These events take place every November and have featured a wide variety of speakers on many of topics related to the violin, as well as demonstrations of violin and bow making and repair, performances of music, opportunities to examine fine stringed instruments and even opportunities for playing chamber music. Most importantly, the meetings afford all those in attendance to meet and share ideas and information with fellow members, reinforcing the bonds that hold together the various strands of the stringed instrument world.

The VSA 2013 Convention: Oberlin comes to Baltimore!

Once more the Violin Society of America returns to Baltimore for their Annual Convention. It is time to look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. This year's theme "Oberlin Comes to Baltimore" will feature Practicum Sessions, including demonstrations and material from the various VSA/Oberlin workshops. These will include Violin Making, Bowmaking, Acoustics, Violin Restoration, Bow Restoration and Bass. The materials of these sessions focus on practical information to aid those wishing to increase their knowledge.
In addition, there will be a special presentation by Chris Reuning, who will participate in an interactive video session, ala Antiques Roadshow concerning the identification of rare old instruments. All Society members are be invited to participate. In addition VSA Board Member, Bruno Price of Rare Violins of New York will have a special exhibition of rare old violins and bows, you won't want to miss.
